February has been a busy month. We have been out training whenever possible, but the main project has been food.
We have 2 dehydrators, both of which have been running 24hrs a day, 7 days a week in an attempt to have all the food prepared by the end of the month. We almost made it. There is just the meat to be processed, so we should be finished in about a week. We bought vast quantities of food and I was rather despondant at seeing the volume and weight of it all. Our 16.5ft canoe started to look very small. As we have progressed however, the weight and volume has been drastically reduced and it looks far more manageable. We shall post before and after pictures once everything is ready, the difference is incredible.
We have also been gathering the last of our equipment. There are only a few items remaining on our ‘to-get’ list. March is a ‘tweaking’ month. All the food and equipment should be completed within 2 weeks and after that it is a matter of going over the trip plan again and again, making sure we have everything we require, and trying to make sure we have not forgotten anything!
The weather has also been in our favour; it has been remarkably warm and the snow and ice is melting. I am confident our start date of 23rd April will proceed as planned.
